back seat driver

E loves to direct me or his daddy around while we drive in the car. He will make "sounds" when we are supposed to turn and he will point with his "saw saw" or "bronco" (these are his latest binkies) in his hand which way we are supposed to go. He has his "selected" routes and we are supposed to stay on them. We have special words we must say as we drive as he points to the items he knows along the way on his "routes." E knows the way to his school, therapy and granny and granddad's house. He also knows his way home from these places. If we must go to a new place or go a new way I have to repeat over and over, new way, new place. He does not like change, so unscheduled stops are a challenge.
Today....we had to make a stop by a bank on the way home. It was just the drive thru, but I really had to do some talking to pull this off with out a meltdown. We made it and once I got back on his "route" he successfully directed me home. I must say it went much today better than a few months ago when part of his "route" home from school was closed due to a gas leak. Ugh... 2 hours after we were home he was still upset about the route change! Not today, I did A TON of talking and he did much better with the change...Progress!

  1. Hurray for that milestone! Its amazing how much he can say to you without saying a word. I am so glad you have started this blog. I really do enjoy listening, reading about your life with e and the way you gracefully and joyfully live it with him. The photos you post reflect that joy! Way to go mom.. keep posting.. cuz I am one of your biggest fans!
